We attend Dothan First Assembly of God. The Assemblies of God (National) holds a Fine Arts Youth Event every year. Here's an excerpt from their website http://faf.ag.org/.....
"Fine Arts Festival is a discipleship tool of national youth ministries designed to "help students discover, develop and deploy their ministry gifts."
Beginning in September each year, over 70,000 junior and senior high school students begin preparing their entries for the District and National Fine Arts Festivals. Students may enter as many as 35 of the 52 categories offered in 7 main divisions: Art, Communication, Drama, Exhibition, Instrumental, Vocal, and Writing."
Our church held one of the Southern District events where 20 churches and about 3500 youth attended !! This picture just gives a hint of how many were there !!
My job was "Door Monitor" for Music Room 2:(male vocal solos and brass /woodwind solos) -- I had to make sure no one entered while someone was performing infront of the judges. This sounds simple but .....
When you have literally hundreds of people waiting in the hallways, it can get a little crazy !!! And of course, I loved it ! I manned that door from 7:30 am until 3:30 pm where over 42 participants perfromed their 2-3 minute song ! Got to hear some great talent ... guitars, keyboards, tuba, saxaphone, clarinet, vocals -- it gave me a new perspective on our future generation .... we're gonna be ok !!!
Meanwhile, Jordan was everywhere.... she participated in a Human Video, a 9 person vocal ensemble, a short ensemble and a solo ( that she didn't do --- too nervous .... especially when they allowed 15 year old boys from other churches in the room while you were performing..... yeah, I would have been too nervous too !! ;-) I got someone to cover my door while I watched her perform.... Here she is (4th from the left) singing her little heart out ! They won 2nd place !
She's already decided that she will do a solo next year and that we will start practicing next week !! LOL !
