An Ode To Oreo, By Jordan

This is a picture of a picture that Jordan drew of our dog, Oreo !! Jordan is in the 4th grade and learning sooooooo much more than I did in the 4th grade. All I remember is fractions and counting money. Jordan is learning things like..... couplets, odes, acroustic poems, bio-poems, cinquain poems -- and that's just in writing class!!!! Anybody know the meanings of these ????? ha ha
She wrote an ode to Oreo, our Boston Terrier. Here it is .......
OREO
My puppy, Oreo, is a Boston Terrier.
She is jet-black and pearl-white.
Oreo has coffee brown eyes
that sparkle at a distance.
She is crazy like a monkey
trying to get a juicy banana.
But, she's sweet like a new-born
wanting to cuddle and snuggle
in its loving mother's arms.
Also, she eats like a starving pig
wanting food.
She runs so fast that
her two back legs
look like she is flying.
When she sleeps,
she's like a hibernating bear,
snoring away nestled on her pillow.
But, my favorite thing about her
is that she is my snuggle buddy !
Spreading the Good News !!

Alright, these are pictures of our fun times with our church -- LifeCoast Church. I teach the 2nd and 3rd graders the 3rd Sunday of each month. I love this age group because they are still sooooo honest and eager to participate. The second picture is of Jordan and myself dressed in African garb for a local parade. Our church made a float and several members dressed in international dress to show that God loves all peoples, nations, and tribes. Our outfits were given to us from Jordan's godmother, Barbara, from her trip to Africa !!
Local Catholic Spring Fest

Ok, remember we just moved here ..... so when we saw signs advertising for the "St. Ann's Annual Spring Fest" we thought -- arts, crafts, baked goods, maybe a cake walk. Boy, were we in for a surprise!! They had a mini-fair on their back lot and tons of entertainment and food galore !! Needless to say Jordan and I had a GREAT TIME ! Jordan (just this year) has overcome her "fear" of fast rides and got on the starship !! She rode it 4 times in a row ( I had to get off after the 2nd time -- I hurt my arm fighting the inertia -- ha ha ha (sad, huh??!!)) But to redeem myself I rode the ring of fire!!!! I can boast about it now but while I was on it I was literally making deals with God !! Jordan was the smart one and decided not to ride it !! We both got sick -- well, not "sick" sick but queasy -- not sure if it was from the rides or the funnel cake. ( probably both) Needless to say, we had a great time !!
Our Neighborhood "Zoo"

I know this sounds nuts, but I guess the old saying "truth is stranger than fiction" applies here... this first photo is a picture of "Herman" -- yes, we've named him (or her). This same frog hangs out underneath the garage overhang during the rain --- EVERY TIME IT RAINS !! The second picture is of "Pokey" (as in ... slow poke) the turtle and he lives just down our street in his cute little burrow. He is roughly the size of a hubcap but everytime I see him out I never have my camera !! Last week mom got up and found a scorpion in her bathroom and just this Saturday we heard Oreo barking outside and saw a doe and her fawn grazing in the yard -- it's like we have our own zoo !!
School Field Trip to St. Augustine
Art Class at School

Jordan came home from school proud-to-the-bone with an art project she made at school. It is a 2x4 piece of wood that she got to engrave with a "special tool". Everyone was allowed to engrave whatever they wanted onto their piece of wood. And as you can see, Jordan chose the cross. Yes, I was proud, too !!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TSHOMBE !
OREO'S TRAGEDY

Poor, Poor, Oreo..... she broke her elbow chasing Jordan on her bike. We took her to the emergency vet center but after he looked at the x-rays, he said it was too far gone for just a cast.... she would need surgery. The closest surgery center is an hour away!! Needless to say we took her -- the only other option was to have her put to sleep. The good news is that she was in very capable hands. Dr. Neihaus was her surgeon and one of his partners is Dr. Kevin Drygas who was an intern on Animal Planet's "E-Vets" tv show!
GINORMOUS LEMONS !!

Whoever said things are bigger in Texas never saw the lemons in Florida!! We went on a church outreach into the neighborhood inviting people to our Easter service. When we got to this house, we couldn't figure out what kind of fruit was on the tree -- oranges? grapfruit? passion fruit? What was it?? When we asked the owner he said.... lemons!!

THE REASON WE'RE IN FLORIDA

This is why we're in Florida..... Belk Department Store !! Tshombe has worked for them for 9 years and has had serveral promotions !! Go Daddy ! This was his first new-store opening. He was in charge of all the details -- hiring, training, advertising, community relations, etc. The store opened in October of 2007 with the highest sales ever for a Charity Day Event !!!! Praise God!
NEIGBORHOOD PET ALLIGATOR

My neighborhood sits on a golf course. We use the cart trails as walking trails. One day while walking the trail, I ran into "Vern" - a 15 foot alligator ! After asking about him to the neighbors, I was told that Vern was sired by Old Walter -- a 21 foot alligator -- who had three legs from an unsuccessful attempt to capture him. Old Walter lived to be a ripe old age and died 2 years ago leaving Vern behind to carry on the legacy !! Now is it just me or is everyone a little too relaxed about having an alligator in the neighborhood ???
