Turtle Fest 2009

Jordan & I attended the annual Turtle Fest at the beach. They had a festival highlighting all kinds of turtles. The Volusia Flagler Turtle Patrol is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of sea turtles. There were all kinds of activities such as: live music, food, kid activities, turtle race, puppet show, face painting, and at the end they released 3 rehabilitated Logger Head Sea Turtles back into the ocean.

Turtle Release

After enjoying the festival, we walked across the street to watch the Loggerhead Turtle release. The caretakers brought them to the beach in big plastic storage bins.

This one had been rescued and nurtured back to health. The caretaker brought it close to the water's edge.

Within seconds it took off like it had been there all its life !! A successful release back to its habitat. There were hundreds of people at the beach and everyone clapped !

3rd Place Winner !! ( AGAIN !)

Jordan won 3rd place AGAIN this year for the 4-H Tropicana Speech. There were 44 students total and her topic was on obesity. I must say I'm very proud of her -- not because she won 3rd place but because she went to school with a bad case of allergies, stuffy nose, and low-grade fever even after I told her she didn't have to go to school. She did NOT want to miss this speech. She takes her committments seriously ! Way to go, Boo !

"Farm Day " in Dothan, AL

While visiting Tshombe in Alabama, Jordan & I went to the Annual "Farm Day" at Landmark Park. This is an historical park where a small town from the early 1900's still stands. We saw sheep being sheared, donkeys, bulls, rams, old tractors, shucked corn, saw how lye soap was made, listened to fiddles and mandolins, drank root beer from a bottle and had to open it by popping off its lid, watched how milkshakes and malts were made in an old drugstore, sat at a desk in the old school building and enjoyed the blooming Dog-wood trees and Azalaeas!

Jordan got her ears pierced !

While visiting Dad in AL, we surprised Jordan by letting her get her ears pierced. She was beyond excited !!! We went to Claire's in the mall and they gave her a bear to hold. She was very brave !

Here she is getting them pierced (holding Daddy's hand). She was surprised that it didn't hurt ! The representative did a great job making them "straight" !

All day long, Jordan couldn't stop saying thank you and how she couldn't believe she had her ears pierced !!
